After reading the product description and reviews, I couldn't wait until the new Oster Blender/Food Processor Arrived. Out of the box I was impressed with it's sturdiness. It was well packaged.....UNTIL I realized there were NO instructions. NONE. There were a few recipes and photos on a well-presented box, but not what you would expect with a device of this nature.I tried to figure out all of the parts only to at first believe that the food processor couldn't house all of it's sharp parts and that the slice/dice blade would have to be stored separately. Additionally there is a small device that is about three inches tall that is necessary to use the slice/dice blade. This crucial piece could be easily lost. AGAIN, NO instructions for usage, assembly, care or storage. ALSO the slice/dice blade is NOT labeled "this side up for slicing/this side up for dicing. You have to just try it out to see what you get.I was going to send it back. I had washed it so, I figured I give it one try and I couldn't believe how fabulously the food processor worked. It is quick and quiet. So, I decided to consider giving it all a chance.Working with the food processor further, I realized that this device is SEVERLY lacking in safety features. Specifically, I mean that you can leave it opened and turn it on or open it before the blades have stopped. YES you read that correctly. It WILL turn on and the blade will spin if the top is off. There is tiny print the same color as the plastic lid that is very hard to read that says "Do not open until the blades stop..." I was extremely surprised that there was no fail-safe and only this almost illegible print to prevent this action.Fast forward a couple of days, I got curious and found the OSTER website. There you can find ALL of the owners manuals, instruction videos, recipes etc. It seems to be a fair presentation. I WISH there had been something in or on the box pointing me to the product guide. You also will have to dig through the website to find the specific product. The blender works beautifully and we are very happy with it. The single serve blending mug is also great. It did leak badly the first time I tried it. I believe it was operator error and the bottom wasn't securely tightened. I suggest trying that out with water first in case you have the same issue. It will be easier to clean. The next time I tried the blender mug it worked like a champ with no leaks at the base.Fast forward until a couple of days ago, I had been storing that little 3 inch knob in the food processor base, continually watching to make sure I got it out if I used the processor. It occurred to me that it might fit into the plunger piece of the processor which is hollowed out. Wallah! It FIT! No more storing the knob in the major compartment area of the processor. If only they had provided basic instructions in the box with the product. I don't ask for much. I would have been thrilled to even find a basic picture presentation showing how it fits together etc.Bottom line, it's a good product. I don't think it's the safest product, but I have enjoyed using it enough to keep it and be carefully mindful of the safety issues. This Oster food processor requires that the user be focused to avoid potential injury. This is NOT a product to use if you have a glass of wine while you cook. If you decide to try it, stay alert and stay safe.I chose this blender for a couple of reasons: 1) to replace my burned out NutriBullet which I used daily for smoothies and bulletproof coffee; and 2) to expand my small appliance collection. I was interested in something with good power, as my smoothies contain either ice or frozen fruit, and I want to be sure they are blended and broken down completely. I have a very tiny kitchen, and since the blender is a daily use item for me, it's more convenient to leave it on the counter. Also due to space, I was looking to gain food processor without having to purchase a separate appliance. I had used someone's Ninja blender in the past and was very impressed with the power. I was comparing this product with the Ninja set containing the food processor/blender/smoothie cup. Ultimately, I decided on this one for two reasons: 1) this blender body is glass, and I am not a fan of the plastic, nor does it have great reviews; and 2) the Ninja blender is lacking the slicing/shredding blade, and only comes with a processor blade, which is half the functionality of a good food processor. Now that I've been using it a while, I find that I prefer to use the big blender as opposed to the smoothie cup. I have a stainless insulated cup that I transfer my smoothie to anyway. The big blender obviously has better capacity. Also, while my NutriBullet could handle a quick whirl up of my bulletproof coffee, this smoothie cup does not handle hot liquid at all. I find this blends ice and frozen fruit just fine, with the smoothie setting gives the best results. Occasionally if I have added a really large strawberry, I find that it hasn't completely been broken down.To clean it I just give it a good rinse, then add a drop of dish soap and some hot water and blend that for a minute or so. Rinse again and let it dry in the dish rack. I will periodically take the bottom apart to clean it thoroughly, but I find if I do the water wash immediately after use, there's really no need to disassemble the whole thing. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase, and hope it will last a while.I purchased this system to replace an older blender that I just plain wore out blending vegetables for smoothies and drinks!! I really liked my old blender, so I stayed with the same brand for my new purchase!!! WHAT A WISE CHOICE I MADE!!!!! This blender system is GREAT!! I can blend my vegetables to make a smoothie or juice them for a drink!! The juicer is eàsy to use. This is my first juicer and I am VERY happy with it. I am VERY PLEASED with this purchase!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this system for beginners or pros!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!First of all, the smoothy pitcher is made of glass, YAY! I use this every day to make smoothies and, compared to my juicer, it's quieter, and easier to figure out the buttons (all labeled [smoothy, milkshake, salsa, etc.]), and the size is smaller-- I keep the pitcher and base right on the counter. It's the perfect size for 2 people.Bought this after my wife and I came back from vacation, and we tried to make our own margaritas. Found that our old blender was so underpowered ( 400watts) which would also explain why it took so long to blend foods. This 1200watt blender works like a charm. No complaints. We didn’t want to spend too much for something fancier. Took me. 4 or 5 tries to figure out the correct way to crush ice for margaritas. Also killer salsas. Excellent purchase.Did what it was suppose to do... Used to make items soft, for a soft food diet after a surgery of relative.I wasn't sure what I was looking for. Just wanted something to create smoothies. Something a bit healthier than ice cream LOL This blend has a dedicated smoothie and milkshake mode. The blades turn in one direction, stops, and reverses. Works great to keep the fruit from clogging the blades. The food processor attachment was just a bonus. I've used it a few times to chop veggies for salad. Works great and not difficult to clean.Received Oct. 15/18. Used for blending salad dressings and hummus. Worked OK until yesterday, when it began making odd noises while making hummus. After examining, found that the drive stud in the motor unit was loose and could easily be lifted out - it seems broken.Called for warranty service but automated system did not return my 2 calls. Third time I waited for a live person and got a U.S. disinterested agent who did not know the product line. My call was disconnected somehow 10 min. into discussion. Although she had my phone number, she never called me back. Then, I called a local authorized Oster service shop, who told me it would take 8-10 weeks to get any parts needed before he could fix it. I will have no blender for that time. I don't have a backup blender. I will have to buy something else.Stay far away from Oster products. Before buying a blender, call their service organization and see if they appear interested in helping you. The there is a "lock sealing ring" gasket that is critical for the use of the blender. Within 5 uses of my blender, it fell off into the smoothie I was trying to blend and get entirely destroyed and shredded up. Ok fine, it's a poor design, but ultimately was a user error. The problem is that it's INCREDIBLY hard to find the replacement gasket. I bought the incorrect size on Amazon and can't return it. I've tried asking a question through the Oster website and that led to a dead end. I've called their customer line and it is busy and then hangs up on you. THE GASKET IS DESTROYED, I CAN'T FIND A REPLACEMENT, AND HAVE A NEW APPLIANCE THAT IS ESSENTIALLY JUNK RIGHT NOW. I'm so annoyed at this entire process and have yet to find a way to buy a replacement.Side note: do NOT get this one gasket: https://www.amazon.ca/Oster-Gasket-Rubber-3-Pack-Gasket/dp/B0002KWBIW/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_79_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QBDR0BJP5NPKK3ENWFJV). It is not the right size for this blender, and it is not returnable on Amazon whatsoever.Unfortunately, mine turned out faulty. I loved that it was a glass container and came with a 5-cup food processor, but after just one use, it broke. On my second usage while blending on smoothie mode in the travel cup, it started smelling and then out of nowhere I saw sparks, panicked and pressed off button. When I tried to start it again it wouldn't operate even though all the lights for the buttons still worked. sometimes it would spin slowly for a second and then just stop. It's a shame because the package basically came with everything I was looking for even though the extra large cup may have been too bulky for my liking. Easy return and refund though and I had considered ordering again because this could be a just a fluke, since most of the reviews looked great, but I got a different set that was on sale and Im going to test it out instead. This food prcessor is a piece of junk. Bought it in October and only used it a handful of times. Used it today to make my pastry doe and the gears are all broken and fell apart on the bottom of the bowl. Pretty pricey for a piece of junk as it replaced one that I have had since 1980 that lasted all those years!
