I have begun making my own herbal salves. The first one I made was cottonwood bud salve for pain relief. After steeping the buds in oil [in this case I used grapeseed oil], I strained out the buds and any debris, then melted shea butter and a bit of bee's wax, to blend with the concoction, knowing that would make it set up into a salve. But it has to be well blended together or you get the oil on the bottom and the shea butter and bee's wax on the top when it cools.So I used my immersion blender. OH NO! Even on lowest power that was too much and I got some of the mixture all over!Oh, when it cooled off, I was able to scrape it off of surfaces and remelt and try again. I had to put it in a very large, tall, narrow can to mix it without making a mess.When I saw this, I was intrigued. I thought it may work well.Now, I have several oil infusions steeping, but they aren't ready for the shea butter and bee's wax yet.I took a small jar of my cottonwood salve, heated it in a double boiler and when it was all liquid, I used this hand push wisk to blend it all well. It works a charm! Not only do I not have to worry about too much power and splashing hot infusion all over, it totally blended the infused oil with the shea butter and bee's wax, with no separation when it cooled.See photo but this is after I used some for pain relief.
